1. Chrysotile is naturally-occurring substance that is found in almost 2/3 of the Earth’s crust. The fibres are released by erosion and carried by the wind.

2. In the general environmental air of cities and rural areas, concentrations of approximately 1 fibre per liter are found around the world.

3. Every individual most likely breathes in between 10,000 and 15,000 fibres a day, and drinks water containing between 200,000 to 2,000,000 fibres per litre.

4. Chrysotile fibers quickly eliminated from the lungs. Biopersistence, i.e half-time clearance of lung from chrysotile is 14 days, amosite 466 days, ceramic fiber 60 days, aramid fiber 90, cellulose more than 1000 days.

5. In the same IARC group 1 of carcinogens along with asbestos there are many others well known substances such as cadmium, chromium, nickel compounds, silica, the sun's rays, vinyl chloride, alcoholic beverages, salted fish, tobacco smoke, saw dust, the manufacture and repair of shoes, the manufacture of furniture and cabinets, iron and steel founderies and the rubber industry.

6. Fibres in the amphibole group are from 100 to 500 times more harmful to health than chrysotile, particularly for mesothelioma and between 10 and 50 times more potent for causing lung cancer than chrysotile.

7. According WHO ingestion of Chrysotile fibres poses no health problems.

8. No health problem is reported in Thailand as well as in Western countries manufactured Asbestos Cement products with Chrysotile ONLY

9. Only Chrysotile (white fibre) is used in manufacturing of Chrysotile Cement Products in Thailand.

10. Only 8– 9% of Chrysotile fibres are used which are locked in cement matrix in Chrysotile Cement Products.

11. In 1991 The US Court of Appeals rejected a proposed ban on scientific grounds. Asbestos Cement products are not banned in the USA.

12. According to HSE annual risk of death per million from work with chrysotile cement products is about 0,8, from road accidents – 70, from fire – 16, lung cancer from radon 35.

What is chrysotile?

Chrysotile is a fibrous mineral which does not burn or rot. It is resistant to most chemicals; it is flexible and possesses high tensile strength.
